A programming game is a game where the core of the game is to program. Notable programming games involving esolangs include Core War and BF Joust.

Note that a programming game is different from games where programming is a part of it. For example, Juno: New Origins (formerly SimpleRockets2) has a scripting language Vizzy for scripting autopilot, however that does not make JNO/SR2 a programming game as there is more to JNO/SR2 than just programming in Vizzy. Similarly, Minecraft has commands which can be considered a programming language but that does not make Minecraft a programming game as the commands are not the main focus.
